Canasta Salon is a free Canasta app for Android made by Evorence UG in Germany. Here are the answers to the most common questions about the app, the rules and privacy. The basic rules of the game are explained on the page Canasta rules.

What is Canasta Salon?

Canasta Salon is a Canasta app for Android phones and tablets. It plays classic Canasta with two, three or four players in partnerships, offline against computer opponents at three levels or online with friends, each on their own device. The app is free, shows ads and is made by Evorence UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Germany.

Is Canasta Salon free?

Yes. Canasta Salon is free and shows ads in return. If you want to play without ads, buy "Ad-free" once for 4.99 EUR (or the equivalent in your currency) or trade gold you have earned for ad-free days: 1,000 gold for 7 days, 4,000 gold for 30 days. You earn gold by winning games, completing stages and inviting friends. No purchase and no gold gives an advantage in the game.

Can I play Canasta Salon offline?

Yes. Games against computer opponents run entirely without internet, on a plane or a train too. You only need a connection for playing with friends, the hand of the day with its leaderboard, cloud save and ads.

How do I play online with friends?

You open a table and share the invite link via WhatsApp, Messenger or email. One tap on the link opens the app right at your table; anyone without the app lands in the Play Store. Everyone plays on their own phone. You can start right away, and friends can join later. No registration is needed. The app creates a pseudonymous player account on your first online game, which you can delete at any time.

How many players can play?

Two, three or four. With four you play in two partnerships, your partner sits opposite you, and the host sets up the partnerships in the lobby. Offline, computer opponents fill the empty seats, including as your partner.

Which rules does Canasta Salon play?

Canasta Salon plays the classic rules: 108 cards, 15 cards and two canastas to go out with two players, 13 cards with three, 11 cards and one canasta to go out with four, a minimum first meld of 50, 90 or 120 points depending on the score, red threes worth 100 points, a game to 5,000 points or a short game to 1,500. All rules are on Canasta rules and Scoring and card values.

Can I set house rules?

Yes. You can set how many canastas are needed to go out, whether going out requires a discard, whether the discard pile is always frozen, how many wild cards a meld may hold and whether red threes count without a canasta. With friends the rules apply per table, and the host sets them.

How strong are the computer opponents?

There are three levels: Easy for beginners, Normal for everyday games, Hard for experienced players. All three play by the same rules as you and cannot see your cards. At the end of each round the app shows all remaining hands and how fair the shuffle was. The hint button suggests the move the hard computer opponent would make.

Is there a tutorial for beginners?

Yes. A guided first round explains drawing, melding and discarding with a real hand. After that the hint button helps, and the journey leads through 30 stages with fixed deals across six chapters of increasing difficulty.

What is the hand of the day?

Every day all players worldwide receive the same deal and play it against the same computer opponent. The result counts towards a monthly leaderboard. The server replays every submitted game to check that it followed the rules. How often the hint was used is shown next to the result.

Do I lose my progress when I change phones?

Not if you use cloud save. Sign in to Google Play in the app, and the app backs up gold, purchases made with gold, ad-free time, statistics, journey and achievements to your account. On the new phone you sign in once and everything is back. Google Play restores the "Ad-free forever" purchase independently of that.

Which languages does the app support?

English, German, Spanish and Portuguese. The app follows the device's system language. You can change the language in the options.

Is Canasta Salon available for iPhone or iPad?

No. Canasta Salon is currently available only for Android 7.0 or later, for phones and tablets. An iOS version has not been announced.

What data does Canasta Salon store?

Game progress is stored on your device and, if you choose, in your Google Play account. For playing with friends the server keeps a pseudonymous account with your player name, and for the hand of the day the submitted games. Ads are served by Google AdMob, and the app asks for your consent before the first ad. Everything else is in the privacy policy.

How do I invite friends, and what do I get?

In the main menu under "Invite friends" you find your link and your code. When an invited friend finishes their first game, they get 200 gold and you get 500 gold. Gold buys table colours, card backs and ad-free days.
